The best kept secret of Haines is the fact that it is home to more than 50 local artists. Galleries and gift shops offer a comprehensive array of work by local artists as well as those from other parts of Alaska. There are approximately 20 galleries and gift shops in Haines and there is a good chance you'll see an artisan at work. In an area rich with their culture, the skills of the Tlingits' wood-carving and jewelry-making still flourish.
