  • March 6, 2012 - Moira Smiley and VOCO at the Chilkat Center for the Arts
    Haines Arts Council invites you to experience a vocal ensemble that redefines harmony singing
    with the power and physicality of folksong, the avant-garde fearlessness of Béla Bartók and the
    vaudevillian accompaniment of cello, banjo, accordion and body percussion. Moira Smiley leads
    extraordinary musicians who share a passion for music with lush four-part vocal harmony steeped
    in Appalachia and Eastern Europe traditions. Named #1 a cappella group in the U.S. in 2007,
    VOCO is the energy of street singing and the elegance of a string quartet.

  • April 4 - Thodos Dance Chicago at the Chilkat Center for the Arts
    “Breathtakingly athletic,” “powerfully beautiful,” performing “vibrant choreography” are among the
    many accolades that Thodos Dance Chicago (TDC) has received. Haines Arts Council invites you
    to experience this ensemble of well-rounded artists who teach, choreograph, and perform, bringing
    contemporary dance to a wider audience. The Company’s highly unique mission of inspiring
    expression through dance education, dance creation, and dance performance
    has established
    Thodos Dance Chicago as an innovative presence in American contemporary dance.

  • April 14 - Sheldon Museum and Cultural Center Jeopardy Fundraiser

  • May 24 - 30, 2012 - "The Moving Wall", Vietnam Veteran's Memorial

  • June 16, 2012 - 20th Annual Kluane to Chilkat Bike Relay - The starting line begins in Haines Junction and ends at the parade field in Historic Fort Seward in Haines. Bike 148.8 through the Yukon's Kluane Park and along Alaska's Scenic Byway and the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. Contact: Judy Ewald at (907) 766-2455

  • July 4, 2012 - July 4 Independence Day Celebration
    Come join Haines in celebrating our nation’s birthday. Festivities include the Mt. Ripinsky run,
    parade, Friends of the Haines Public Library BBQ and book sale, pie eating contest,
    mud volleyball, evening concert, and much more!

  • Annual Independence Day Music Festival - Put on your dancing shoes and
    get yourself to the Fort Seward parade grounds between the day's activities
    and the evening fireworks display. 
  • July 26 - 29, 2012 - Southeast Alaska State Fair - Four fun-filled days of live music,
    a hometown parade, exhibits, food, logging show, rides, entertainment and more.

  • September 1, 2012 - Labor Day Mardi Gras Celebration
    Local establishments, Pioneer Bar, Fogcutter, Harbor Bar and the lounge
    at Halsingland Hotel create a Mardis Gras atmosphere with costume contests,
    music, face painting, good eats and more.
     
  • September 1 - 2, 2012 - Raven's Bowl Disc-Golf Tournament
    Two-day disc golf tournament held at Raven's Bowl and Glacier Point courses.
    Local transportation, dinners, and live music included. Hole prizes and cash payouts to winners.

  • October through January - Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve Gathering
    World's largest congregation of American Bald Eagles. Up to 4000 eagles
    gather along the banks of the Chilkat River to feast on spawning salmon.

  • November 23, 2012 - Annual Lighting of the Library Fundraiser sponsored by the
    Friends of the Haines Borough Library. Kick off the winter season with friends and family,
    music, refreshments, art project for kids, and, of course, the lighting of the tree.
    Door opens at 7 p.m. If you'd like to help with the decorating of the library, the elves start working

  • November 14 - 18, 2012 - Alaska Bald Eagle Festival - 18th Annual Alaska Bald Eagle Festival.  This event celebrates the peak of the winter gathering of eagles.  Educational seminars, tours, and family special events.  Contact American Bald Eagle Foundation at 907-766-3094 or Email:  info@baldeagles.org.

  • October through January - Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve Gathering - World's largest congregation of American Bald Eagles. Up to 4000 eagles gather along the banks of the Chilkat River to feast on spawning salmon.
  • Annual Community Christmas Celebration - Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7th and 8th, 2012.  Activities for kids of all ages.  Enter your favorite sweet treat in the candy/cookie contest, write a letter to Santa and get your picture with the man in the red suit, visit Mrs. Claus at the Public Library for stories and songs, stop by the Museum to see the trains, bundle up for the parade and get an early start on your holiday shopping.
