A few guidelines must be followed in order to be married in Alaska. Contact the Haines District Court in advance for making the proper arrangements:

Temporary Permit to conduct a wedding ceremony

Anyone can perform your marriage ceremony including a friend or family member as long as instructions are followed for obtaining a marriage commissioner appointment from the Alaska Court. Also, the individual performing the ceremony does not have to be an Alaska or US resident. Contact the Haines Magistrate for details on becoming a Marriage Commissioner in Haines. The process takes about 2 weeks and the form can be faxed ahead of time.

Borough parks can be used by anyone and are first come first serve.

State Park
Cabin and Shelters can be reserved for $25. All reservations can be made over the phone. If you have 20 people or less there is no permit needed, more than 20 people and a special permit is required.

Sacred Heart Catholic Church	766-2241	Marriage counseling is a requirement before ceremony can be held in the church. If not members of this church, all the paperwork confirming that all procedures have been done would have to be sent from home church. Contact with this church would have to be at least six months before the actual wedding and the priest here would have to coordinate everything with the home church of the couple.

Elk's Lodge	766-2289	They do rent the hall out to people; a letter of request must be submitted for consideration at the monthly or bimonthly meetings. Only members can buy drinks at the bar, so if the hall is rented by someone that is not a member the bar is closed off and the rest of the facility is open.
American Legion	766-2575 or 2530	Hall rent $75; cleaning deposit of $50, with use of kitchen rental is $125. Reservations should be made at least a week in advance with kitchen manager. Alcohol can be served.
